I'm thoroughly surprised (though not pleasantly) how violent kids can be. Long gone were the days where kids are supposed to be innocent, cute and sometimes ignorant. Here's an example to justify my point.
Just last week, a pair of cousins of mine apparently got into a fight for god-knows-what reason. Thinking that it was just a childish squabble, my grandparents dismissed it. Well, can't blame them cos fights of such happen at least once everyday. But alas! This had to be one of the unfortunate days. Remember me saying how earth-shaking events always visit us on a normal, lazy day?
Anyway, their fight escalate into something more than a verbal challenge. The pair of cousins, a boy and a girl were scolding each other heatedly, like I said, for dunno what reason, when the girl said, "If you have the guts, use water and splash me lar!" in the typical singlish way. The boy haughtily replied, "Don't think I dare not!" in the same singlish way. The girl, being stubborn as she is, retorted, "Cold water is NOTHING. If you dare, use HOT water!" The boy stormed off to the kitchen after hearing that. The girl, thinking that she has won, smiled triumphantly to herself in the room, not knowing what was in store for her later on.
On the other side, the boy filled a one litre bottle to the brim with boiling water from the kitchen. After that, he just stormed back into the room and splashed his sister with boiling water. GOSH. He being 10 years old, should have known by now what boiling water do to people, and yet he did that. Is this something of an accident or can it be classified as a case whereby "education has lost its cause"? My cousin screamed like never before the moment the boiling water touched her. She was immediately escorted to the clinic by my grandparents and given immediate attention, fortunately. However, her arms and stomach were littered with boils. Poor thing. I was thinking how lucky it was for her that the boiling water didn't touch her face.
Now that I'm planning to take up a tuition job, it is hard for me not to think of the violent act that has occured inhouse. Supposed my student splashed me with hot water when he/she grow too tired of my lessons or something? -shudders-
I'm getting increasingly nerdy! So if you are a fellow nerd and have a love for textbooks and shopping, do add me on msn: terrorist_gurl88@hotmail.com. :D
